The reel of PETG will last a really long time to the extent that I had plenty left over after printing 6 panels along with all the failed prototypes (there's a lot). The visual difference is astonishing - always use the highest density you can to avoid this problem! Keep in mind that the higher pixel count will increase the total current draw, which requires lower gauge wire and a stronger power supply. Don't be like me, I accidentally bought loads of 60 pixel/m strips and only realized when I installed them and noticed they looked wrong. Otherwise, the LEDs will create hot spots that will ruin the effect. Whichever type you use, it needs to be really strong to hold the panels on the wall. 1x roll of heavy-duty double-sided tape, such as this one on Amazon.Make sure you use PETG though! Other common materials aren't as transparent and have a lower heat tolerance. I have personally used and tested the following, so using different ones will be at your own risk. These materials may be substituted for others with varying rates of success. While I have provided a few effects out of the box, you can add more and tweak the project as you see fit. This is a short video demonstrating what we are going to be building in this post. If you enjoy these kinds of projects, be sure to share my post as it really does help! The final product An overwhelming amount of this project's complexity comes from the software I'm providing as a download for free. Most other DIY panels use acrylic, which is great for this purpose but is difficult to use and work with. Each panel is 3D printed out of transparent PETG filament and can immediately be used without any other assembly. These can be individually addressed, allowing for animated effects and complex color blending. You can almost certainly find a cheaper source of strips, but the key is that they must be WS2811 LED (or similar) else the project may not work. The downside is that each LED will be clearly visible, and the light won't be diffused properly. An easy way to find a cheaper strip is to pick one with a lower density than the one I used as the lowest ones often cost half the price. You can lower the cost simply by using less expensive LED strips as they represent around 80% of the cost. This DIY project manages to create each one for around 14$, which is a big difference when you need many of them. The biggest problem with them is that they can get expensive quickly with each panel easily costing over 20$ each. There is nothing wrong with commercial options, and they are actually a better choice for most people. ![]() ![]() Most commonly, it’s used to express jealousy or envy. MBN: “Must be nice.” MBN can have two meanings. LMK: “Let me know.” In other words, keep me posted, or give me the relevant information when you know. It can also be used in sarcastic or hostile ways, depending on the context. LMAO: “Laughing my ass off.” Similar to LOL (laughing out loud), LMAO is used to express that you found something funny or ironic. For example, someone might post a meme that would only make sense to computer coders, with the caption “IYKYK.” IYKYK: “If you know, you know.” An acronym that originated on social media, IYKYK implies that only certain specific people or groups will understand the joke. As in, “ISTG I saw Chris Rock working out in my gym this morning.” This is not a very common acronym, so if you see it in a text or on social media make sure you understand the context, as it could mean something else. ISTG: “I swear to God.” Used to express honesty or seriousness about a subject. IMY: “I miss you.” Including this acronym in a text message to a friend, family member, or romantic partner is a cute, casual way to let them know you’re thinking of them. ILY: “I love you.” This one is pretty self-explanatory. Both are abbreviations of the same phrase. IGHT and AIGHT are both words that have the same “positive” meaning. IGHT is a shortened form of the more common phrase AIGHT. IGHT: “Alright, Yes, Okay, Fine or Good”. As in, “You look great in your pic you should post it to IG.” IG: “I guess” or more commonly, “Instagram.” Depending on the context, the acronym “IG may refer to the phrase “I guess” or the social media site Instagram. HYD: “How you doing?” Similar to “what’s up?” but often used in a joking or flirtatious manner. HMU: “Hit me up.” A slang term meaning “call me” or “text me” (it has nothing to do with actually hitting anyone). Many people find it arrogant or off-putting, but there’s no denying that its usage is becoming increasingly common. However, it has branched out and can be used to refer to anyone who’s the best at anything. GOAT: “Greatest of all time.” This term originated with athletes who referred to themselves as “the greatest of all time” at their given sport. Today, it’s most often used in work settings to explain to coworkers or clients that you won’t be able to respond to messages for a period of time.ĭW: “Don’t Worry.” The acronym DW is one of the oldest on my list, with Urban Dictionary first recording its use in 2003.įOMO: “Fear of missing out.” A slang term describing the feeling of jealousy or discomfort that comes from thinking you’ve missed a fun event or important milestone. To help you keep up, I’ve compiled a dictionary of popular internet slang terms and acronyms. They also added the term “dad bod,” which they define as “a physique regarded as typical of an average father especially one that is slightly overweight and not extremely muscular.” This may not be directly an internet slang term, but nevertheless, it’s very funny. These words then often trickle down into everyday conversations and situations. Counting macros is also an element of certain popular diet plans such as keto, where followers count fat, protein, and carbs with the hope of achieving various touted health benefits, weight loss among them. That’s because more people are counting their macros rather than calories, whether to lose weight or potentially improve their health (with celebrities like Hilary Duff, or the trainer at your gym, getting in on the trend). While the term “macronutrients” (or more popularly recently, “macros”) has been around for a while, it’s only recently gotten a lot of buzz. The combat was functional overall, and Frey’s abilities to cast spells on the ground and while hovering in the air allowed for more fun type combinations. Spells are cast using the left and right triggers only and pressing both utilizes a special combo attack. In other words, the quality of the details shown in limited quantity falsely portrayed the combat as “clunky”. After playing, I found those concerns about being convoluted to be a result of the flashiness of Frey’s spells. While the main title will have many more options, the demo limited us to fire and earth spells. Frey’s combat is centered around magical spells. ![]() The demo quelled some of these concerns for me. A lot of rapid-fire magic spells and AoE attacks seemed like way too much was happening at once. The little I saw seemed overly convoluted and fast, although I couldn’t tell if the former was simply an illusionary result of the latter. ![]() One of my primary fears around Forspoken was its combat. The premise of what’s to come is intriguing, but unfortunately how she got there is nothing more than the proverbial person being sucked into another world and having to be its savior. We are treated to a small cinematic explaining how Frey (protagonist) ends up in Athia along with, of course, what her journey will entail. Its UE5 development brings out the best, and the sun-drenched images were jumping off my Samsung’s 4K screen. While its objectives only took me about half an hour (maybe a few minutes less), I spent another half hour or so traversing the world with as many parkour combinations as I could come up with.įirst of all, the game truly does look incredible. I played through the entire demo, and was left with a little bit of relief along with a number of questions. ![]() The demo, however, gives a small glimpse of what to expect. It has been extremely limited and generic and left me apprehensive due to how “huge” the game is expected to be. I haven’t been exactly blown away by the game so far as a result of its marketing. Games like this tend to release with an overhyped reaction and underwhelming performance historically. The overall marketing for the title has been slim pickings at best, with almost no gameplay shown at all and just as little regarding its story. I have admittedly been leery of the game since its announcement as much of its limited marketing has been centered around its development in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). The demo for the much anticipated Forspoken was announced at The Game Awards this week. ![]() ![]() ![]() A temperature-controlled kettle is the easiest way to ensure you’re hitting the right temperature for each type of tea you make. Too cool and too short, and you’ll get a weak, flat taste. Too hot and too long, and you’ll end up with bitterness that overpowers the sweeter, more subtle flavor in your tea. Knowing ideal water temps and how long to steep tea are fundamental in making consistently good cups. Unfiltered tap water can often leave your tea with a chemical or metallic taste, and hard water makes it more difficult to extract the flavors of the tea leaves fully. Other than the quality of your tea leaves, water and infusion times are the most critical brew factors when it comes to the final taste of your cup.įiltered tap water or spring water will usually give you the best results. Whole-leaf teas like Ti Kuan Yin (a classic oolong) expand dramatically once they’re rehydrated, so you may need more water than you think. Whatever ratios you choose, just be sure there’s enough water to allow the leaves to unfurl properly. If you’re aiming for a more robust cup, always add more leaves instead of lengthening brew time. Of course, your personal taste is the deciding factor, so experiment with tea-to-water ratios until you’ve zeroed in on your ideal flavors. If you’re using large “fluffy” leaves, you may need a heaping teaspoon or as much as a tablespoon. As a starting point, most will recommend one teaspoon of leaves (or one tea bag or sachet) to every 8 oz of water. Most tea sellers provide brewing instructions, so start with their measurements. Or get creative and just use your French press! If you want to brew multiple cups, a teapot with a built-in infuser basket is the way to go.Mesh tea infusers are usually larger, providing plenty of room for your leaves to unfurl, and can be used directly in your cup.Infuser balls or novelty infusers like the adorable Fred Manatea Tea Infuser let you brew in any cup, but many don’t provide room for larger tea leaves to expand fully.Don’t let the extra equipment scare you off – learning how to steep tea with any of these infusers is simple. However, if you choose to use loose tea leaves, you’ll need some steeping gear. ![]() Some of our favorite online shops for sourcing specialty loose-leaf teas and tea sachets are Mountain Rose Herbs, Adagio, Vahdam Teas, and Tealeaves.īags and sachets can be brewed directly in your cup. They’re often filled with quality tea leaves instead of CTC leaves, and the pyramid shape gives the leaves room to expand and infuse their flavors properly. However, when you do need to prioritize easy brewing, pyramid-shaped sachets offer a great balance of convenience and flavor. Because the leaves are larger and have usually undergone a more careful drying and oxidizing process, they impart a more balanced and complex flavor with less bitterness. Quality loose-leaf teas, on the other hand, preserve larger pieces of the tea leaf or the entire leaf. This method makes it easy to produce bulk amounts of tea but results in small, broken leaves that release their flavors quickly and are prone to producing bitter, astringent cups of tea. The leaves in bags are processed using the CTC method (cut, tear, curl). ![]() Teabags work in a pinch, but you’ll sacrifice taste for convenience. ![]() Whether you prefer strong black teas or delicate white teas, starting with quality tea leaves is the first step to making a great-tasting cup of tea. ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyone may consider that converting a video to another format is a tricky business.
